(Quick Advice on Playing This Fun Contest)
It is NFL season again and for those of us that have been counting down the days, it couldn’t come any sooner. If you are someone who has not played in a survivor contest before, you should look into playing one this year. They are very easy to play and at the same time add a little more excitement to an already exciting weekend. The basic survivor contest could also be called a streaker contest, with a one loss and you're out rule. In a survivor contest you must pick one winner every week. If you pick a loser you are out of the contest. The contest winner is the person who can go the furthest into the season without incurring a loss and at the same time not picking the same team twice. There are also variations on the game such as a loser's survivor pool where the object every week is to pick a loser.
While trying to win, people employ many strategies to picking one single winner a week. I will just go into detail on two strategies that many people use, even without knowing it. The first one is just picking the best team to win each week. The good thing about this system is that you will have a much harder time going out early in the contest. However, when it gets later in the season, there are good odds you will not have the option of picking the best team each week. The other option to picking I will talk about is basically the opposite of picking your best teams first. It is saving good teams for later in the season. If you save your good teams and try and pick bad teams in good spots at the beginning of the season you could in essence make selections easier towards the end of the year. It is a risk reward situation where you just have to decide if you want to take good teams early or save them should you make it far into the year.
There are many good places to find survivor contests from ESPN to Yahoo to Sportsline. However, most of these big media sites have 1000s of people playing and it is virtually impossible to win. So, in this author’s opinion the best place to find these contests are on smaller sports sites. Registering is just as easy as the big media sites, just not nearly as many players. For instance TheFBZ.com only has 25 players in its 1000$ survivor Contest. PlanetContest.com is another good place to find these smaller contests.
