Trap Games in College Football

Trap games could ruin the Football Season for these Teams

Trap games.  College Football teams across the nation have had their dreams of a National Championship smashed by such games.  A trap game occurs when a good team faces a weaker team.  The better team finds itself in a bigger struggle than they expected against the lesser opponent.

Trap games come before, after or between big games.  Usually when the better team thinks they are superior to the lesser team and they do not bring their "A" game.  How many times have you thought, "wow we should be killing these guys".  In all fairness, it must be hard for college teams to get up for a weaker opponent when they have a much bigger game on the schedule the next week.

Gamblers tend to love the trap games and for that very reason I have laid out what I think are going to be some of the biggest trap games of the 2008 college football season in the SEC.

Florida vs The Citadel on November 15th

Florida will more than likely be coming into this matchup 24+ point favorites.  They will be coming off two tough games. South Carolina and Vanderbilt, both teams play Florida tough.  Florida will be looking to rest some players, and actually could have some injuries.

The set up is that they will be playing Florida State the week after The Citadel.

I would look for the The Citadel to cover this game.

Georgia vs Vanderbilt on October the 18th

Georgia is coming off a game with Tennessee, and they have LSU the very next week.  Vanderbilt will not be the push over that the Bulldogs expect to face.  I predict Vanderbilt to be winning at the half, and covering the game easily.

Tennessee, I have two traps for Tennessee this year.

The first trap game is with UAB.  Tennessee barely escaped with a win against UAB in 2005 and they face their bitter rivals Florida the next week.  UAB covers this game, and gives the Vols another scare.

The second trap game for Tennessee is Northern Illinois.  Tennessee will be heavy favorites in this game, but history doesn't bode well for Tennessee in these situations.  They face a mighty Georgia Bulldog team the next week that is out for revenge.

LSU Tigers vs South Carolina Gamecocks on October 18th

LSU is on the road to face Steve Spurrier and his Gamecocks.  LSU plays Georgia the very next week.  This could be the game that cost the Tigers a shot at the National Championship.

There you have it, my predictions for trap games in the Southeastern Conference (SEC).  Next I will look at possible traps in the Big Ten.
